The Quilts are Done!

And just in time.
I was trimming and washing them all on Christmas Eve Eve.
They were just so darn cute, they didn’t look that hard to make, and I just knew I could get three done in a month.
My famous last words.
But I did and now that they have been given, I can show them off.
It all started when I saw this Simplicity pattern for a turtle quilt.  Perfect for my new grandson.

I wanted to use bright colors so, when I saw this lime green minky, I decided to use that as my main color.

Then I saw this Simplicity pattern for a clown fish.  My granddaughter loves the movie Finding Nemo, so this quilt was a must.

Remember this material from the post I Interrupt This Holiday Season?

What will it be?
What will it be?

It became this
Dinosaur
This is from the same Simplicity pattern that had the turtle and I thought it would be great for my almost five-year old nephew.  It wasn’t as fun as all those toys, but he should be thankful I didn’t make him a pink bunny costume! 😉
These patterns are not like a traditional quilt where you make the top, layer with batting and back it with another fabric.  Each square has three pieces sewn together then quilted with the machine from corner to corner.  Then the squares are sewn together with seams out so they will fray when washed.  I used a lime green fleece for my “batting” in the dinosaur.

These quilts were not that hard to make but the pattern was a little confusing.  My only suggestion is  to keep the squares numbered or keep the pattern pieces pinned to each square to speed up the process of putting them together.
Fortunately, for me, I had my assistant to keep me in line.
